National collections

The national collections conserve copies of all materials printed in Iceland and material that directly concerns Iceland printed elsewhere. This is where materials that arrive under the legal deposit obligation are kept. This material is only available for on-site study in a reading room on the 1st floor of the library and cannot be borrowed for off-site use. Photocopies or digital images can be made available on request. Requests for digital images are handled by the library imaging department and, if necessary, the library conservation department.

Every month our staff select one "treasure" from our collections to highlight on the front page. Click here for a list of past highlights.

See our Contacts page for information about contacting the front desk of the national and manuscript collections.
