The Football Association of Iceland in the library

Today a number of footballers visited the library where there was a draw for the first round of the Icelandic VISA Cup. The first match of the Icelandic Cup was played on the Melavöllur field where the library now stands 50 years ago and so it was considered fitting to hold the drawing in the library building. The Melavöllur was the largest sports arena in Reykjavík from 1911 to the late 1950's when it was largely replaced by Laugarvöllur. It was still used for sports events until 1984 when its floodlights were transported to Laugardalur.
