The Icelandic-Danish dictionary was published in 1920-24. The book contains 1052 pages and 114,000 headwords. The dictionary is a key piece of Icelandic dictionary history and is still the largest Icelandic explanatory dictionary ever written. All glossaries in the book are in Danish.

The Icelandic-Danish dictionary is for the most part a collaborative project of the couple Sigfús Blöndal (1874–1950) and Björg Caritas Þorláksdóttir (1874–1934), that they started in Copenhagen during their first year in marriage, 1903. They worked constantly on the dictionary for the next 17 years, but because of Sigfús's permanent work at the Royal Library, it is clear that Björg's work has not been less than his in the dictionary project. In addition to the Sigfús and Björg, Jón Ófeigsson (1881-1938) and Holger Wiehe (1875-1925) worked on the dictionary as editors.

In April there is a 100 year anniversary commermoration of the publication of the dictionary's first part.
