The library´s highlight in September is a love letter from the 19th century. In march 1893, Níels Jónsson (1870 - 1934), a 22 year old farmer from the western fjords of Iceland, wrote a love letter to Guðrún Bjarnadóttir (1872 - 1943) that lived on a neighbouring farm. The letter was very detailed as he described his feelings towards her which were illustrated as well in his fine drawings. The text and illustrations makes it one of the most beautiful love letters preserved at the manuscript collection of the National and University Library. It is now on display on the exhibition „Print, manuscripts, and private archives“ on the first floor of the library. Its catalog description is accessible here.
