12.08.2024

The Swedish musicologist Göran Bergendal, who worked for Sveriges Radio for a long time, handed over his data on Icelandic musicians to the Icelandic Music History Museum on July 2nd. His collection contains manuscripts for articles on Icelandic music and recordings of interviews. Bergendal published the book New music in Iceland in 1991 in collaboration with the then Tónverkamístóð and it is available on the web at pökör.is. The collection is on the collection mark: TSÍ 2024/11 Göran Bergendal (b. 1938): Private Archives. Bergendal first came to Iceland on the occasion of the Reykjavík Art Festival in 1972 and has been a regular visitor to the country ever since. He was accompanied by his wife Lena and their daughter. The composers Hjálmar H. Ragnarsson and Karólína Eiríksdóttir mediated that the data came to Iceland. Also at the ceremony were two former employees of the Icelandic Music History Museum, Bjarki Sveinbjörnsson and Jón Hrólfur Sigurjónsson.
