Um Úrnat

(About Úrnat)

by Björk Guðmundsdóttir

Björk Guðmundsdóttir self-published the fairy tale Um Úrnat (About Úrnat) which was manifolded on watercolor paper in a limited edition in 1984. The booklet  is 16 pages with a handwritten text and drawings by Björk which she has colored with watercolors and crayons. Björk herself remarks that with this edition she was trying to collect money for the rent of her apartment. The booklet is now in a very heavy demand among collectors. Björk says on the title page that Úrnat is „a rather undefined and untranslateble word from papuish meaning something like „trip“ or „holiday““.

The story begins this way:

„Under twenty natural stones there was Keldur. After years of searching Nraríða had demanded
that he´d come up
that he´d pull up his pants
and stop digging
-he would be caught.“
