Audio-visual Collection

The Audio-visual Collection of the National and University Library of Iceland holds Icelandic sound recordings and films, objects and photographs of Icelandic musicians, and interviews from the Centre of Oral History. You can listen to the recordings on the Library’s equipment, and to some of them, and to excerpts, on the website Hljóðsafn.is. Sheet music is lent for 30 days and films for three days. Send questions about the collection to hljodogmyndsafn (at) landsbokasafn.is or come in person.

Complete quiet: silence is the rule

The 4th floor has many individual study desks and armchairs. In Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3, the Library sets out to protect visitors’ peace to work and gives each area its own noise level. The 4th floor is a “silent floor”: it is for undisturbed work, and complete silence is expected.

Computers and internet

In the study areas: for University of Iceland students and staff.

Þjóðarbókhlaða has a wireless network (LBS-HotSpot) that anyone can join with their own laptop or mobile device.

There is a photocopier on the 2nd floor of the building. It is a self-service machine, and cards for it are sold on the 2nd floor (see fees).
