After Kristmann Guðmundsson’s death in 1983, his daughters gave the National Library of Iceland (now the National and University Library of Iceland) the part of his library that held the writer’s own works, both in the original languages, Icelandic and Norwegian, and in translation into many languages, as well as various anthologies to which he had contributed. There are also many works that he translated into Icelandic. In 2016 this collection was made one of the Library’s special collections.
A quantity of cuttings from foreign newspapers and periodicals came with the gift; that material is kept in the Manuscript Collection.
