Everything you need to know about information searching – take a course in information literacy

The Kennsluvefur í upplýsingalæsi (information literacy learning website; in Icelandic) was launched recently. The website is the work of a group of university libraries working together on teaching information literacy, and the project received a grant from the Library Fund. Information literacy is a fundamental skill that every university student needs, not only to meet the demands of their studies but also to use information responsibly and critically in an ever-changing information society.

Learning to work with sources

The learning website www.upplýsingalæsi.is contains a wide range of learning material that covers both the basics and the more advanced steps of information searching. It puts particular emphasis on helping students plan their searches and evaluate information for their assignments. By taking this online course, students can develop these skills and gain confidence in searching for sources and information in their studies.

Access

The website is open to everyone and offers simple, user-friendly learning material made up of videos, diagrams, text and short exercises. The course takes about 80 minutes to complete. Students can work through the material at their own pace, so the course suits both new students, as an introduction, and those who want to add to their knowledge of information literacy.
