Tímanna safn 1818–2018: talk by Einar Sigurðsson, 3 May

On Thursday 3 May Einar Sigurðsson, former National Librarian, will give the talk “Merging the libraries and a new building” in the lecture series Tímanna safn (Collection of the Ages), held to mark the 200th anniversary of the National and University Library of Iceland.

The abstract of the talk says:

“The talk reviews the background to the merger of the National Library of Iceland and the University Library, and the slow progress towards a new building for the merged library at Arngrímsgata 3. It describes how the size and design of the building took shape during the design period, among other things in the light of developments in information technology, and the part the libraries’ staff played in that work. It touches on the legislation on the new library and how it got its name. To assess whether merging the two libraries was the right course, it sets out the main tasks of the new library in its first years, not least those concerning online access to the knowledge the library is meant to share.”

The talk will be given in the lecture hall of Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3, 12:05–12:45.

Everyone is very welcome.
