200 years since the National Library was founded

In 2018 the National and University Library of Iceland celebrates 200 years since it was founded. To mark the occasion, the Library is holding a series of lunchtime lectures on its history and role in a wide context. The speakers will include former and present staff of the Library, writers, architects, scholars, artists and other guests. Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, President of Iceland, opens the lecture series on 11 January with a talk entitled “Documents make a nation: the National Library and the shaping of memory over two centuries.”

Everyone is very welcome.
