Icelandic book history: talk

On Wednesday 6 April Ingibjörg Eyþórsdóttir, doctoral student in Icelandic literature,  will give the talk “Two hymnbooks from the vault of Þjóðarbókhlaða – Lbs 524 4to and Lbs 1927 4to, or Hymnodia Sacra” in the lecture series Íslensk bóksaga (Icelandic Book History), held in the lecture hall of Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3, 12:05–12:45.

The abstract of the talk says:

Many hymnbooks are kept in the National Library’s Manuscript Collection. Among them are the manuscripts Lbs 524 4to and Lbs 1927 4to. Lbs 524 4to is thought to have been written shortly before 1600. It contains copies of almost all the hymns of the Hólar hymnbook of 1589, and music for most of them. Lbs 1927 4to is called Hymnodia Sacra and is dated 1742. The talk will describe these manuscripts, compare them and consider what purpose they served  in their time.

Everyone welcome
