Nína Tryggvadóttir: centenary

You are welcome to the opening of an exhibition marking the centenary of the artist (1913–1968) in the lecture hall of Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3, on Thursday 27 February at 15:00.

It is now 100 years since the birth of the artist Nína Tryggvadóttir. Nína was known for her art but also published several children’s books. She lived abroad for long periods, among other places in Copenhagen, Paris, London and New York, where she lived her last years. In 1940–1943 Nína lived in Reykjavík and got to know many artists at Unuhús, among them Louisa Matthíasdóttir, who also studied art at the same time as her in the United States in 1943–1946. Nína’s letters to Erlendur of Unuhús, written during her student years in the United States, are kept in the National Library’s Manuscript Collection, and many of them are delightfully illustrated. At the opening, Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson will talk about the book Fljúgandi fiskisaga (The Flying Fish Story), and National Librarian Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir will talk about Nína’s letters in the correspondence of Erlendur of Unuhús.
