Laws and regulations

The Library’s role is set out in Lög um Landsbókasafn Íslands – Háskólabókasafn (the Act on the National and University Library of Iceland), No. 142/2011 (in Icelandic). The Library is to be at once the national library of Iceland and the library of the University of Iceland, and as a research library it must provide information services for everyone in the country in the fields of science and scholarship, public administration, business, and arts and culture.

See also the regulation on the Library, No. 170/2014.

Under Lög um skylduskil til safna (the Legal Deposit Act), No. 20/2002 (in Icelandic), the Library receives copies of works published or made public in Iceland.
