Atli

Atli edr Raadagiørdir Yngismañs um Bwnad sinn : helst um Jardar- og Qvikfiaar-Rækt Atferd og Agooda med Andsvari gamals Bónda : Samanskrifad fyri Faatækis Frumbylinga, einkanlega þaa sem reisa Bw aa Eydi-Jørdum Anno 1777.

This book is regarded as one of the main literary works of the Icelandic Enlightenment. Its author, Rev. Björn Halldórsson (1724–1794) of Sauðlauksdalur, wrote it as a dialogue between the young and ignorant Atli and the experienced old farmer. The old farmer teaches Atli about farming, but also about such things as the weather, marriage and bringing up children. Above all, it is a textbook on farming. Atli was published in 1780, and on the initiative of the Danish king copies were given to the country’s farmers.
