On 6 December Félag bókagerðarmanna (the Icelandic union of book and print workers) gave the National and University Library of Iceland the so-called Bókbindarasafn (Bookbinding Collection). It holds books bound by hand by various bookbinders and marked with their names. It also includes additional material, such as bindings from well-known binderies, and professional books. The collection comes with a simple list, but it will be catalogued in Gegnir. In all there are 195 books, and more will probably be added gradually. The collection will become part of the special collections and will be used for research on Icelandic bookbinding.
The picture shows Sigurþór Sigurðsson, Svanur Jóhannesson and Georg Páll Skúlason handing the collection over to the National Librarian, Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir.
