At the end of 2011, the National and University Library of Iceland signed an agreement with OCLC on a nationwide consortium subscription to WebDewey, the online Dewey Decimal Classification. The Library handles all the administration and finances and issues passwords. Five libraries besides the National and University Library took part from the start; there are now 15. The WebDewey subscription promotes consistency in classification and gives constant access to the latest update of the system.
The Icelandic translation of the Dewey Decimal Classification, with its relative index, which the Library published in 2002, is out of print, but a digitised copy is available on bækur.is.
