A donation to the Latin School at Bessastaðir 1805
A small exhibition has been opened in the library, showcasing the donation of Jón Therkelsen (1774–1805) to the Latin School at Bessastaðir (1805–1846). Jón’s donation consisted of over 300 classical books and several manuscripts. The school and its library were relocated to Reykjavík in 1846. In the early 20th century, a large selection of old books was donated to the National Library, including Therkelsen’s donation.
