The first Icelandic computer game

On 14 October 2013 Bjarki Þór Jónsson gave the National and University Library of Iceland the computer game Sjóorrusta (Sea Battle). The game is thought to be the first Icelandic computer game sold in Iceland; it was designed in 1986 by the father and son Erlingur Örn Jónsson and Jón Erlings Jónsson. The game was written in Basic and Assembler for Sinclair Spectrum computers and, according to its makers, sold out. It was released on data cassette.

Bjarki Þór Jónsson is working on a project on the beginnings, development and preservation of Icelandic computer games. The project aims to preserve material connected with Icelandic computer games and game design from the beginning to the present day.
