The Library also preserves material published in electronic form and on public computer networks. Such material is preserved in Rafhlaðan, the Library’s digital repository, and on Tímarit.is. Material subject to legal deposit includes, for example, e-books, reports, journals, newspapers, sheet music and much more.
If material is published both in print and electronically, both versions are subject to legal deposit under the Legal Deposit Act. The same applies to different editions, new or changed.
Who must deliver?
The publisher and/or the producer is responsible for depositing electronic material.
How to deliver
Delivery is through the Library’s electronic deposit box. You can attach more than one file to each submission, up to a total of 8 GB.
You can also e-mail electronic material to: rafhladan (at) landsbokasafn.is
Anything larger than 60 MB must go through the Library’s deposit box.
Material is also accepted through cloud services such as WeTransfer, Dropbox and the like, but only for very large and/or many files.
Material can also be delivered on USB sticks or CDs. Post them or hand them in at the Library’s service desk, marked “skylduskil” (legal deposit).
The submission must come with information on how the material is to be accessed: whether it is to be in open or closed access for an indefinite period. Material must be in PDF, ePub or Mobi format. DRM (Digital Rights Management) must be removed from e-books so that they can be catalogued, also from material that will be in closed access. PDF files of journals, newspapers and newsletters must be of the best possible quality (print quality) and without crop marks. The publication and its cover/front page must be in the same PDF file, and each page of the publication must open as one PDF page, not as a double-page spread.
Send all questions about electronic deposit to skylduskil (at) landsbokasafn.is.
