Memory of the World in your collection?

The Icelandic National Committee for Memory of the World is inviting the first nominations for inscription on the National Register of Iceland. The aim of UNESCO’s Memory of the World programme, and of the register of the same name, is to draw attention to the important documentary heritage of the world by naming documents of special value for preservation.

The National Register of Iceland focuses on documents that are important for the whole country. The Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection in Reykjavík and Copenhagen and the census of 1703, which have been inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register as a sign of their importance for the whole world, also belong to the National Register of Iceland. New nominations inscribed on the national register could later lead to applications for inscription on UNESCO’s world register.
