In Jón Sveinsson’s (Nonni) books, Nonni tells about his adventures together with his brother, Manni. The books are twelve and have been published in millions of copies in dozens of languages. Nonni is extremely popular outside of Iceland and is probably the Icelandic author who has been published in the most languages, until recently. Nonni’s books are still very popular around the world, but his first book was published in German in 1913. It wasn’t until 1922 that it was first book was published in Icelandic in a translation by Freysteinn Gunnarsson, but Nonni wrote this first book in Danish. Thus, now we commemorate a centenary since the first book by Nonni was published in Icelandic.
