READ JAPAN PROJECT 2025 donates books to the Library

On 9 September, a donation of books to the National and University Library of Iceland was presented on behalf of READ JAPAN PROJECT 2025, a project that aims to promote knowledge and understanding of Japan.

The Library received 44 books in English on Japanese society, history, culture, literature, language, politics and international affairs, as well as manga. The books will strengthen the Library’s collections and make it easier for students, scholars and the public to find a wide range of material on Japan.

At the ceremony, Örn Hrafnkelsson, National Librarian, and Ambassador Takewaka of Japan to Iceland gave speeches. Afterwards, guests could look through the books, which drew great interest among those present.

READ JAPAN PROJECT is an international project that promotes a greater understanding of Japan by donating books in English on Japanese society and culture to libraries, universities and research institutions around the world.

The Library thanks the Embassy of Japan in Iceland, the Tokyo Foundation and The Nippon Foundation for this generous gift, which will serve study, research and a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society.
