On Saturday 16 May 2015 an exhibition will open in Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3, to mark the centenary of women’s suffrage. At the same time a website on the history of the vote, konurogstjornmal.is, will be launched, open to everyone. The exhibition’s title, “Vér heilsum glaðar framtíðinni” (We women greet the future gladly), is a quotation from Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir’s speech on 7 July 1915, when the vote was first celebrated on Austurvöllur. The project is funded by the Executive Committee for the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage and is a cooperation between the National and University Library of Iceland and the National Archives of Iceland, Alþingi (the Icelandic parliament), RÚV and RIKK – Institute for Gender, Equality and Difference at the University of Iceland.
