A memorial walk connected with the exhibition on Guðrún Lárusdóttir in Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3, “En tíminn skundaði burt…” (But time hurried away…), will take place on Monday 27 August at 16:00, the day of the funeral of Guðrún Lárusdóttir and her two daughters, Guðrún Valgerður and Sigrún Kristín, who died with her.
The walk starts at 16:00 at Ás, Sólvallagata 23 in Reykjavík. Málfríður Finnbogadóttir leads the walk. It follows the route the funeral procession took 80 years ago: east along Sólvallagata to Hólatorg, north along Garðastræti, down Túngata and Kirkjustræti, past the Parliament House, with a stop in the Cathedral. Then the same way back to Hólavellir Cemetery, where the walkers go to the grave and lay a wreath. The walk ends in Þjóðarbókhlaða at the exhibition “En tíminn skundaði burt…”
Since there are few parking spaces near Ás, we suggest that most of those coming on the walk park at Þjóðarbókhlaða and share a few cars from there to Ás.
The picture shows Guðrún’s descendants with Málfríður Finnbogadóttir at the unveiling of a memorial to Guðrún by the river Tungufljót on the anniversary of her death.
