Databases on translation

To mark International Translation Day on 30 September and the European Day of Languages on 26 September, we would like to draw attention  to some  important databases that can be found in the list of Electronic resources on the Library’s website.

  • Communication & Mass Media Complete  (CMMC) indexes the content of about 750 journals in media, languages, linguistics, sign language and translation studies, of which  500 have full texts. CMMC is open only to users on the University Network and is one of the databases that EbscoHost gives access to.
  • Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA) indexes the content of about 1,200 journals in linguistics, grammar and languages.  It often has links to the full texts of articles. Open nationwide.
  • MLA – Modern Language Association  indexes material in literature, linguistics and folklore published in about 5,000 journals.  It sometimes has links to the full texts of articles.  Open on the University Network. MLA and  LLBA are among the many databases that ProQuest gives access to.

More databases and websites with interesting material can be found on the Library’s website under My subject – Languages  and My subject – Linguistics (in Icelandic)

Last but not least, remember the search engine leitir.is , which lets you search the catalogues of Icelandic libraries from one place, as well as material in foreign journals in national access.
