The Hagþenkir Award for the publishing year 2023 went to Ólafur Gestur Arnalds for his book Mold ert þú – Jarðvegur og íslensk náttúra (Dust you are: soil and Icelandic nature). The publisher is Iðnú. In its citation, the Hagþenkir (Association of Writers of Non-fiction and Educational Material) award committee says of the book:
“A major work of natural and environmental science, with an emphasis on the special character of Icelandic soil. It discusses in detail the importance of soil in dryland ecosystems, with rich data and illustrations.”
To mark the occasion, a micro-exhibition has been set up in Þjóðarbókhlaða, the library building at Arngrímsgata 3.
