Audio- and visual collection

The Audio and Video Collection is located on the 4th floor of the National and University Library. It preserves and makes accessible published Icelandic audio recordings and films that the library receives through legal deposit, objects and photographs from the archives of Icelandic musicians, and interviews from the Center for Oral History. You can listen to some of the recordings in the Audio Collection, hljodsafn.is . Films are also available for loan.

Audio recording

According to the Act on Legal Deposits, the National Library is required to obtain for preservation all audio recordings published in Iceland; three copies of material published in hard copy and access to online copies. The purpose is twofold, on the one hand, the permanent preservation of published audio recordings and on the other hand, to provide access to Icelandic cultural heritage.

Movies

The audio-visual collection has a selection of Icelandic and foreign educational films and feature films that can be borrowed for three days. Films that are not on loan can be viewed in the library.

Gifts

The National and University Library of Iceland's Audio and Video Collection accepts donations that strengthen the collection and are in accordance with its acquisition policy. Those wishing to make gifts to the library must, in advance, contact the library's contact persons.
