An international conference on the Spanish Civil War is at the National Library on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st April in collaboration with the Basque Friends Association of the Gipuzkoa Region, the Basque Etxepare Institute, the Center for Basque Studies University of Nevada, Reno, the Barandiaran Chair for Basque Studies University of California, Santa Barbara, the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute and the National Library of Iceland – University Library.

Foreign academics giving talks are Xabier Irujo, Viola Miglio, Alavaro Aragon, Rikardo Etxepare, Mari Jose Olaziregi, Aurélie Arcocha-Scarcia, Michael M. Barkham and Tapio Koivukari.

Icelandic scholars will include Ragnar Edvardsson, Viðar Hreinsson, Torfi Tulinius, Helgi Þorláksson, Magnús Rafnsson, Einar G. Pétursson and Hjörleifur Guttormsson.

On Tuesday, the publication of The Spanish Wars of 1615 (The True Story of Jón the Learned) in four languages, Icelandic, Basque, English and Spanish, will be presented in collaboration with the Center for Basque Studies and Forlagíð – one of the most significant events of the anniversary year. This work, which has not previously been published in Basque, English or Spanish, will be published on Monday, April 20, in four languages with an introduction by historian Más Jónsson, who also prepared the Icelandic texts for publication.
