About the library

The National and University Library of Iceland is the national library of Iceland and the library of the University of Iceland. The library collects, preserves, catalogues and classifies all Icelandic documents. The library provides services to the teaching and research activities of the University of Iceland and maintains library and information services for the benefit of industry, administration and research in Iceland. At the National Library, the library offers good working conditions with easy access to the collection.

Laws and contracts

The Act on the National and University Library of Iceland No. 142/2011 stipulates the role of the library.

Management and organizational chart

The National Librarian and department directors sit on the Executive Board. The Board is a forum for the library's top management to review its affairs and discuss the decisions that need to be made.
