Library's regulations

Facilities

  • On the 2nd floor there are facilities for individuals and groups. Quiet conversations are allowed but no phone calls.
  • On the 1st, 3rd and 4th floors there is complete privacy and silence.
  • It is not permitted to reserve a reading table. If a reading table is unused for an hour or more, staff are permitted to vacate the table.
  • According to an agreement with the University of Iceland, its students have priority access to marked reading tables on the 3rd and 4th floors during exam times.
  • Guests are reminded to take care of their belongings. No responsibility is taken for their belongings.

Orderly conduct

  • Please treat the library with care and leave the premises tidy, follow the library's regulations, and be considerate.
  • Food consumption is only permitted in the snack facilities on the 2nd floor.
    Guests must leave the table clean and tidy.
  • Beverages in closed containers are permitted in reading rooms on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors.
  • Smoking, including vaping, is prohibited in the museum, as is all handling of alcohol and drugs.

Security

  • The library should be a safe place for visitors and staff.
  • Guests and staff should be shown courtesy and consideration.
  • Harassment or violent behavior towards guests and/or staff is not tolerated and may result in expulsion.

Patrons who fail to comply with the library’s regulations may be required to leave the premises.
