    Face on display

The exhibition Faces on Display: Icelandic People and Others at the Canary Islands Museum deals with part of the subject of Kristín Loftsdóttir's book of the same name, which was published by Sögufélag in 2023. The book focuses on a small collection of casts made in the 19th century by people from different parts of the world. The book is the result of Kristín's research that covers the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and France and analyzes transnational connections that were created through racial studies. Anna Lísa Rúnarsdóttir is the editor of the book, while Anna Lísa and Kristín are the curators of this exhibition. The research at the Canary Islands Museum is part of the research project Creating Europe through Racialized Mobilities (CERM), which deals with different aspects of (im)mobility in Europe, especially with regard to racism and the relationship between past and present in Europe in relation to the legacy of imperialism.
