The 2021 Hagþenki Award went to Aðalheiður Guðmundsdóttir for her books: Arfur aldanna I: Handan hindarfjalls, Arfur aldanna II: Norðvegur, published by Háskólóutgáfan. The Hagþenki Award Committee's justification states, among other things: "In [Arfur aldanna I-II], Aðalheiður [Guðmundsdóttir] opens readers to a diverse and fascinating comparative material, ranging from Latin chronicles and Germanic heroic poems to carving, weaving and stone carvings. She clearly summarizes the research of previous scholars (written in various languages) while also discussing new methods for approaching this heritage, for example those that take into account theories of memory or of live transmission and the influence of the audience on the creation of historical material." On this occasion, a micro-exhibition has been set up in the National Library.
