On Wednesday, February 20, Björn Þ. Axelsson handed over a Bible that was once owned by Elka Björnsdóttir, a worker in Reykjavík, whose diaries are preserved in the manuscript collection and were recently published in the series Sýnisbók íslenskrar alþýðumenningar. The first page of the Bible is incomplete, but Elka has repaired it and added text where it was missing. Various chapters are also underlined and short notes written throughout the Bible. Elka died in 1924, but the Bible ended up with Helgi Tryggvason, an antiquarian book dealer, where Björn bought it about 50 years ago. Björn handed over the Bible to the museum last Wednesday, and now it is preserved in the same place as Elka's diaries and letters. Historian Davíð Ólafsson, who was involved in the publication of the diaries, was present at the handover.
