Book donation on Victims' Remembrance Day

Book donation on Victims' Remembrance Day

Professor Hannes Hólmsteinn Gissurarson has presented the National Library with a book gift from the RNH, the Research Centre for Innovation and Economic Growth, on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Totalitarianism, Nazism and Communism in Europe, on 23 August 2014, which was exactly 75 years since Hitler and Stalin divided Central and Eastern Europe between them with the Moscow Treaty. The European Parliament has made this day a special annual day of remembrance. Among the books are the report of the Estonian Commission of Inquiry into the atrocities of communists and Nazis in the country, a two-volume work by Professor Bent Jensen on the history of the Cold War in Denmark, and biographies of men who played a role in the history of the Icelandic communist movement, for example Willi Münzenberg, Otto Katz and Arne Munch-Petersen, all of whom were executed by their fellow soldiers. The book donation is in connection with a collaborative project between RNH and AECR, the European Association of Conservatives and Reformists, on "A Europe of Victims".
