Children write

    Children write

A few manuscripts and letters from children are preserved in the manuscript collection of the National Library of Iceland – University Library and were on display in the foyer of the Icelandic Museum on the 1st floor of the National Library from July to October 2015. Two letters are from sisters who wrote to their brother, who was taken away from home, another letter is from a young girl to President Jón Sigurðsson and also a letter and drawing from a young boy to his brother in a distant land. A small prayer book that a father gave to his one-year-old son and a hymnal that a young girl received from her sister. Also on display here are manuscripts of two siblings from their teenage years. It is likely that children's traces lie elsewhere in the manuscripts. It is often seen that various kinds of writing exercises have been done on the blank pages of manuscripts and it is not unlikely that children and young people were involved.
