Dr. Áskel Löve's diaries donated to the National and University Library of Iceland

On the occasion of the centenary of Dr. Áskel Löve, professor of botany, his descendants presented the National Library of Iceland – University Library with diaries that Áskel kept from the age of 18 until the end of his life, from 1935 to 1989. There are a total of 35 books in total, plus a few loose pages from the winter of 1945-46.

Áskell graduated from Reykjavík High School in 1937 and received his doctorate in botany from Lund University in the spring of 1942, at the age of 26. He returned to Iceland in 1945 and worked as a specialist at the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Iceland until he moved with his family to Winnipeg, Canada, in 1951, where he took up a professorship. He later worked in Montreal, Boulder, Colorado, and San José, California.

Áskell was a prolific and respected scholar in his field and left behind numerous scientific articles, including special editions of those he regularly sent to the National Library.

Ingibjörg Steinunn Sverrisdóttir, National Librarian, receives a gift certificate from Gayle Löve Swanson, daughter of Áskel Löve. Steingrímur Jónsson supervised the program and spoke about Áskel's life and work.
