The Dewey Classification System

At the end of 2011, the National Library of Iceland-University Library signed an agreement with OCLC for a nationwide subscription to WebDewey, which is the online Dewey classification system. The library handles all administration, finances and assigns access codes. Five libraries, outside of LBS-HBS, participated from the beginning, but now they have grown to 15. Subscription to WebDewey promotes consistency in classification and provides continuous access to the latest updates to the system.

Dewey's classification system, along with a relative subject index, published in 2002 in Icelandic translation by Lbs-Hbs, is out of print, but a digital reproduction can be accessed at bækur.is .
