Recently, the publishing house Sæmundur published the memoirs of Guðrún Borgfjörður (1856-1930). Guðrún was the daughter of Jón Borgfjörður, a scholar, police officer and manuscript collector, and Anna Guðrún Eiríksdóttir, a housewife. She kept house for most of her life for her brother, Klemens, a district magistrate and land registrar. In her seventies, Guðrún began writing her memoirs, in which she tells of life in Reykjavík in the second half of the nineteenth century, her fellow travelers, news and events. The memoirs were first published in 1947 in a shorter version by the publishing house Hlaðbúð, but have now been published in their entirety. Guðrún's autograph manuscript was found some time ago and Anna and Áslaug Agnarsdætur recently donated it to the manuscript collection on behalf of relatives. It has been given the collection number Lbs 5787-5788 4to.
