    The Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies is holding a symposium entitled

    Of natural sciences in the information age

    in the National Library, lecture hall on the 2nd floor,

    Saturday, February 11, 2017 .

     

    The symposium begins at 1:30 PM and ends no later than 4:15 PM.

     

    Four talks will be given as follows:

     

    Natural Science and Metaphysics: The Enlightenment and Christian Wolff

    Henry A. Henrysson, philosopher

     

    Phlogiston and 18th-century chemistry

    Huginn Freyr Thorsteinsson, philosopher of science

    "His fire still burns": On Linnaeus' influence on Icelandic scientific articles

    Ágúst H. Bjarnason, botanist

     

    Icelandic folk sources on the worldview of astronomy 1750–1850

    Einar H. Guðmundsson, astrophysicist

     

    Moderator: Kristín Bjarnadóttir, mathematician

     

    The presentation of each talk takes about 20 minutes.

    About 10 minutes will be given for questions and discussion after each presentation.

     

    During breaks, the company offers coffee breaks.
