The Mountain Woman

Kristín Dahlstedt Jónsdóttir (1876-1968) was born in Botn in Dýrafjörður. At the age of eighteen she met Magnús Hjaltason Magnússon (1873-1916), the poet from Þröm, and the model for Ólafur Kárasson Ljósvíking in Halldór Laxness' novel, Heimsljós. Kristín broke off her engagement to Magnús when he had taken on another woman. Magnús last had contact with Kristín while he was serving a sentence for rape in the prison on Skólavörðustígur.
