Audio- and visual collection
The collection includes Icelandic audio recordings and films, objects and photographs of Icelandic musicians and interviews from the Center for Oral History. Audio recordings are accessible on the museum's equipment, but you can listen to parts of them and audio excerpts on the website Hljóðsafn.is. Sheet music is available for loan for 30 days and films can be borrowed for three days. You can contact us with inquiries about the collection at hljodogmyndsafn@landsbokasafn.is or visit the site.
Absolute privacy, silence reigns
On the 4th floor there are numerous individual reading tables and armchairs. In the National Library, emphasis is placed on ensuring the working peace of visitors and defining acoustics in individual areas. The 4th floor is a "silent floor", which means that there should be working peace and absolute silence.
Computers and Internet
In the reading room: For students and employees of the University of Iceland.
The National and University Library has a wireless network (LBS-HotSpot) that everyone can connect to with their own laptop/smart device.
Printing and photocopying
You can print from the library computers on the 3rd floor and pick up a printout from an employee at the front desk. Printed documents are handed over when you process loans (see Library Services Fee Schedule ). Students at the University of Iceland are assigned a username and password at the Student Registry in the main building of the University. Purchase of a print quota .
There is a photocopier on the 2nd floor of the building. It is a vending machine and cards for it are sold on the 2nd floor (see price list ).
