The first Icelandic computer game

    The first Icelandic computer game

On October 14, 2013, Bjarki Þór Jónsson presented the National Library with the computer game Sjóorrusta. The game is considered to be the first Icelandic computer game sold in Iceland, and was designed by father and son Erlingur Örn Jónsson and Jón Erlings Jónsson in 1986. The game was designed in Basic and Assembler for Sinclair Spectrum computers and, according to the father and son, sold out. It was released on a data cassette.

Bjarki Þór Jónsson is working on a project on the origins, development and preservation of Icelandic video games. The project aims to preserve data related to Icelandic video games and video game design from the beginning to the present day.
