    Into the Green Forests – an exhibition of poems by Snorri Hjartarson

     

    On Friday, April 22, 2016, an exhibition of Snorri Hjartarson's poems opened at the museum. The exhibition showcases Snorri Hjartarson's poetic gems. The poems will greet visitors to the National Library in the museum's corridors, and they can also use a tablet in the exhibition area and listen to the poems read by Gunnar Þorsteinsson, translator and poet. 

    Snorri Hjartarson was born on April 22, 1906 in Hvanneyri in Borgarfjörður, the son of Hjartar Snorrason, a school principal, and Ragnheiður Torfadóttir, but grew up in Arnarholt in Stafholtstungur from the age of nine. He studied at Flensborgarskólann in Hafnarfjörður and then at Menntaskólinn in Reykjavík, but had to leave due to poor health. He went abroad to seek medical treatment and then studied art in Copenhagen in 1930 and Oslo in 1931-32. During these years his first poems, five poems, were published in the magazines Eimreiðinn and Iðunn . There he placed particular emphasis on
