Icelandic Book History: Lecture October 7th

Icelandic Book History: Lecture October 7th

On Wednesday, October 7, Halldóra Kristinsdóttir and Sigríður Hjördís Jörundsdóttir will give the talk "On the Edge of Society. Outcasts of the Manuscript Collection" in the lecture series Icelandic Book History , which will take place in the National Library's lecture hall between 12:05 – 12:45.

The abstract of the talk states:

"In the summer of 2013, an exhibition was held at the National Library called Outcasts? It described the lives and work of about thirty individuals who in some way did not fit into the society in which they lived. The basis for that exhibition was research that Halldóra Kristinsdóttir and Sigríður Hjördís Jörundsdóttir conducted on the manuscript collection of the National Library of Iceland - University Library, and the aim of the exhibition was to bring to light manuscripts that were related to outcasts. Following the exhibition, Halldóra and Sigríður began writing a book on the subject, which is expected to be in bookstores in early November. It tells the story of outcasts in West Iceland and the Westfjords and is connected to the manuscript collection.

The talk will discuss various manuscripts related to the topic, but many interesting things came to light when searching the manuscript archives. Manuscripts written by outcasts, letters they received, documents related to them, and diaries they wrote will be highlighted.

    Everyone welcome

The lecture series is supported by the Sigrún Á. Sigurðardóttir and Haraldur Sigurðsson Research Fund.
