On Wednesday, April 6, Ingibjörg Eyþórsdóttir, a doctoral student in Icelandic literature, will present the talk “Two hymn books from the vault of the National Library – Lbs 524 4to and Lbs 1927 4to or Hymnodia Sacra” in the lecture series Icelandic Book History which will take place in the National Library lecture hall between 12:05 – 12:45.
The abstract of the talk states:
Many hymnals are preserved in the manuscript collection of the National Library of Iceland. Among them are the manuscripts Lbs 524 4to and Lbs 1927 4to. Lbs 524 4to is believed to have been written shortly before the turn of the century 1600. It contains transcriptions of almost all the hymns of the 1589 Hólabókin and notes for most of them. Lbs 1927 4to is called Hymnodia Sacra, which was recorded in 1742. These manuscripts will be described, compared and their purpose at the time will be discussed.
