Laws and regulations regarding the museum

The National Library of Iceland – University Library Act No. 142/2011 stipulates the role of the library. It is intended to be both a national library and a library of the University of Iceland, and as a research library it is responsible for providing information services to all citizens in the fields of science and scholarship, administration, business, and arts and culture.

According to the Act on Mandatory Deposits No. 20/2002, the National Library receives copies of works published or published in Iceland. This is done with the aim of preserving them permanently, making comprehensive records of this material, and making it available for information and research.
