On February 2, a symposium was held in the National Library's lecture hall about the SÁL Drama School (Association of Enthusiasts for Drama Studies). The symposium was held in parallel with an exhibition currently underway at the National Library of pictures and documents that the school's students and teachers donated to the Icelandic Drama Museum for preservation on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the SÁL Drama School, which was a remarkable institution, a drama school founded and run by the students themselves, during the period 1972-1975. There was a lot of visionary work and behind the scenes a great struggle by students for new methods in drama teaching and a state-run drama school. The moderator was Lísa Pálsdóttir. Speeches were given by Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, Minister of Culture and Business, Kári Halldór Þórsson, director and drama teacher, Viðar Eggertsson, actor, director and former theatre director, Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, former mayor and minister, Ása Helga Proppé Ragnarsdóttir, adjunct emeritus at the University of Iceland, Bjarni Ingvarsson, actor, Þorleifur Hauksson, representative of SÁL teachers and Hanna María Karlsdóttir, actress. The panel included Helga Hjörvar, drama teacher, Þórhildur Þorleifsdóttir, director, Karl Ágúst Þorbergsson, performing artist and lecturer at the University of Iceland, Ingibjörg Briem, former director of SÁL, Guðrún Gísladóttir, actress and Ólafur Örn Thoroddsen, actor. The audience was packed and the lectures were varied, decorated with both acting and singing.
