Interlibrary loan
The library provides its users with books and journal articles from other university and research libraries. Books are not ordered from the City Library or public libraries in the capital area. Please also note that the Library of the Parliament and the ministerial libraries lend books only to the reading room. Books that are accessible at the library are not processed for interlibrary loan except to other libraries.
All instructions on how to order materials are in the Interlibrary Loan guide.
Waiting time and deadline
Waiting times can vary greatly, from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the subject. The waiting time for articles is generally two days, but a minimum of a week for books. The return deadline for books received from abroad is usually three to four weeks. University of Iceland teachers and staff receive articles via internal mail, but students and other users must pick up articles at the lending desk. Everyone must pick up books at the desk.
Icelandic libraries
Icelandic libraries can order interlibrary loans from the National and University Library of Iceland. This is done in the Gegnir library system or by sending an email to the email address millisafnalan@landsbokasafn.is .
