Shaping the future – Trausti Valsson

Shaping the future – Trausti Valsson

An exhibition about ideas, design and organization

On October 1, an exhibition was opened to mark the retirement of Professor Trausti Valsson and the publication of his autobiography Shaping the Future – Ideas – Design – Planning.

The exhibition presents many of the main aspects of Trausti Valsson's life and career. However, the personal story is not in the foreground, but rather the trends and trends that have prevailed in planning and design over the past 50 years. Since Trausti graduated in both architecture and planning at the universities of Berlin and Berkeley during times of great upheaval in these disciplines – and met the main ideologists – he can easily describe what has most shaped the changes in the last half century. Trausti also talks about the main planning and research projects of his career in the book. The main themes there are the development of planning in Reykjavík and the capital region, Icelandic planning and regional issues, as well as changes in the development of settlements around the world with global warming.

The exhibition is a collaboration between the National Library of Iceland – University Library and the School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Iceland. The exhibition closes on January 9, 2016.
